Invergordon mural trail

The small town of Invergordon (in the highlands of Scotland) was transformed by murals in 2006 – 2007 as part of the ‘Off The Wall’ mural trail. Several artists were chosen to carry out large scale paintings in the town and I was lucky enough to be given 2 murals to paint.

The murals chronicle the history of this historic town. I was commissioned to paint the local Pipe Band and a mural showing a fire at The Royal Hotel in the town. The trail was officially opened by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal in Sep 2007. These murals are some of my largest in my career as an artist. Painting the tartan on the pipe band member’s kilts is definitely one of my most challenging subject matter to date! It was particularly tricky battling the elements of the Scottish weather especially as I was often up a scaffolding tower. Painting flames and then detailed tartan certainly tries ones patience if it decides to rain before the paint has dried!
